it's funny, according to my analytics, most of the people who view my page are in russia. hello, russia ;)

tonight, musing on the knowing that sometimes the best of intentions can create the worst of results. one can most definitely be TOO generous. or TOO kind. or TOO considerate. and if these intentions are not capable of being returned, this will destruct something relatively good and turn it sour.

anyways, here are some sad songs...

M83 - Wait

How To Destroy Angels - Ice Age
(Trent Reznor is still a god of musical arrangements and melodies, despite whomever may be fronting the tune)

in the meantime, i'm successfully catching Eevee's in Castelia Park.

recalculating

a conversation i had earlier today made me remember this silliness... had completely forgotten that i even had a blog to begin with. i started to think about whether or not i should just delete it, seeing as how it has served so long with minimal purpose. but i think i may as well put it to some sort of use... this can become my own personal video "dump"... music/music videos/notable shorts that i encounter (and don't want to forget) that tickle my innards with their loveliness. i know that probably no one reads this, and i have never even told my friends about it (except for patty, of course...and i think i may have listed it under my etsy bio) or announced when i have posted something new. a part of me likes to imagine some listless internet dweller, searching without knowing what they're looking for, and stumbling maybe across a piece of music here, or an inspiring image. maybe a small piece of something that can entertain, even for a few moments, and can be a tiny little experience they can take with them as they move along their way...
so without further ado, here are this nights' spoils: (dear reader, i apologize that not all of these are fresh... it had been a while since i had re-delved into my music loves, some i just had to share because they are worth acknowledging)

The most fantastically absurd two-parter i've ever witnessed:

a bit of an "american psycho, circa 2012", complete with hipster-murdering rampage (nsfw):

and another strange gem... lovely song, refreshingly ODD video (prolly nsfw, too):

*gulp*

...so today i wrote an email to the advertising director of Bust Magazine, requesting information and pricing as well as upcoming ad availability. egads... i'm really doing this, aren't i?

now i have to figure out which piece/photo would be the best, most eye-catching statement for luminoddities... hmmmm...
(suggestions welcome!)

I awake in the night, to hear the engines purr

for years, now, "in this shirt" by the irrepressibles has been my absolute favorite music video. the song has an ache that reverberates through the video's seedy and long-mad circus performers, cast about by some madman ringleader. THIS is how i want our wedding to look... only with less frowning ;)

now if i could only figure out how to get skeeball at the reception... hmm...

a quiet heart, like a car alarm

this morning i awoke to find a song that crawled into my heart and stayed.

...I adore her twisted mouth, those sneers and snarls. They are so endearing.

mysterieuse

i found an old tintype of a strange woman and drew her portrait. i like to think she was in mourning.

mourning lady

in honor of strange beauties, mysteries and that indescribable eeriness...
here are two exquisitely odd videos built to make you wonder:

cocorosie - gallows
(not terribly fond of the vocals on this one... but it tells a lovely tale)

significance no. 001

... the first of many.
for a very long time, i have been obsessively collecting masses of intricate, ancient and charming antique skeleton keys. the time has come to set them free, one at a time... as numbered significances.

here is the first:

in honor of the sea... here's a lovely tune by The Tiger Lilies with a decidedly aquatic themed video:

i simply cannot stress how enthrallingly TINY these tintypes are... what perfectly delicate metal photos... perfect, especially for wearing! these are just the first, of course... more are already in the works! :)

on a side note, lykke li's "wounded rhymes" arrived in my mailbox yesterday and it is now playing on permanent rotation and will be for the next few weeks. here is a taste...

my gem tintype obsession

minitin2

The size is breathtaking, is it not? This is a REAL photograph, a gem tintype from the Civil War Era. I have recently become the proud owner of two, leather-bound, gem tintype albums positively BURSTING with these tiny treasures (well over a hundred!). And what do I intend to do with them? Turn them into jewelry, of course! What better way to honor our history than to make use of it again and give it new purpose and appreciation?

Gem tintypes, also known as "Bon Ton Tintypes", were made by using a modified lens structure, multiplying the image many times onto one sheet of metal. The lens looks like this:

Tin%2001

They're really very similar to modern photo booths! As a much cheaper portrait alternative, the purchaser could walk away with many tiny portraits, rather than one or just a few. They were rarely any larger than a postage stamp... most are just under one inch long!

minitin

See how tiny!!! :)

Please share your thoughts and ideas on how I can incorporate these into jewelry and wearable pieces of history!

there's really no excuse

i can think of several films that SHOULD have received cult status by now but... haven't.
i don't understand it but i'll try my darndest to correct it. throw your pre-conceived notions of pride out the window and lose yourself to ridonkulous tongue-in-cheek joy.

Death Becomes Her (all in 5 minutes) - 1992

Teen Witch ("top that" rap scene) - 1989

Cold Comfort Farm (theatrical preview) - 1995

Xanadu (final musical number) - 1980

shut up and enjoy ;)

mucous and the many exotic flavors of "ick"

all work and no play makes jess a dull girl.

too much sick and no well doesn't do much for me either. i am just now shaking the last clinging globs of mucous from my innards, following my first visit to the doc since early 2007, apparently. lol. ahhhh... antibiotics - good for battles against infection... BAD for healthy digestion and bowel movements. more than ye wanted to hear? yeah... sorry.

in the meantime, my recent attachment to the couch/period of immobility left me restless and i have been a busy little bee drawing and doodling and such.

the following is a product of said immobility:
bug-ette

...and the funny thing is, about the same time i was sketching this lady out, my mom was procuring a wonderful beetle-in-repose (a.k.a. DEAD) in a lovely little petri dish for yours truly! and it is the EXACT same species as the one i randomly chose from my insect field guide! how surprised i was to suddenly find myself in the possession of a lovely little guy who was the spitting image of my doodle-bug-lady!!! o, my heart did swell with joy :)

and it feels GOOD to be well again and back to join the crowds of you "living" folks :D

p.s. i love my mom so much. and not just cause she brings me pretty dead things... ^_^
